Multilingual CatEducational aims to reach as many people as possible with information about how to protect the welfare of cats in Australian communities. The most recently available census data reveals there are over two hundred languages spoken within Australian communities. In some local government areas in urban NSW, for example, 50% of people prefer to use a language other than English at home.
The resources on this website focus on two key issues:
1. the need to desex cats (early age desexing is crucial as cats can get pregnant at 4 months of age).
2. the need to microchip your cat (a legal requirement) and then update microchip details when you change your address
More effective education about cat desexing is needed so unwanted litters do not keep arriving at pounds. Awareness also needs to be raised about the potential dire consequences of failing to microchip and update microchip details. You may never see your pet again if they become lost.
Homeless cats and kittens also suffer abuse on the streets. Perpetrators of such abuses need to be strongly dealt with, that goes without saying. However, education about cat desexing also clearly needs to reach more people to help end this suffering.
There is a need for information on how to keep cats safe and healthy in the languages spoken within Australian communities. This website and our FaceBook page are trying to help fill that information gap.
